Previous (2017 and earlier) MBAs disconnected Bluetooth when lid was closed and went to sleep. M1 MBA seems to keep Bluetooth alive. Is this normal and is there any way to disable it?
MacBook Air (2020 or later)
You can go into your System Preferences, and in the Bluetooth section, indicate that you want the Bluetooth status to show up in your Menu Bar (top of your screen). Clicking on this icon will allow you to turn Bluetooth off and on.
I do not know of any way that you can turn off BT by simply closing the lid.
