I have created a slideshow, downloaded a song I want to use, and can select it (the song) but no sound plays when I preview or play the slideshow.
i can hear it play when I select a different song, but I need to figure out how to get this specific song to work.

Does it date from the era when I tunes was putting DRM on purchased music? (Anything purchased prior to around 2010 would have had DRM). I believe you can now remove it if that is the case.
Alternatively what format is the file? Perhaps it is a format that photos cannot play.
The dolby atmos might be the problem. I don't know if there is any special encoding for that, but it is possible Photos can't use it. Do you have any options to download a standard stereo version (perhaps under Options in your screenshot)
Worst case, you should be able to play the file in Apple Music, and make a new recording of it using Quick time. I would expect this then to be playable in Photos.

You might want to turn off Atmos in Apple Music preferences before playing/recording it, if you have a device that supports it.
From where have you downloaded the song? If it has drm you won’t be able to use it in a slide show.
I downloaded and paid for it on iTunes. It works fine to play it there or in Apple Music. I can select it for the slideshow, just neat hear it when I press preview or the slideshow play button.
