How to stop "verifying" Word, Excel, etc.

Often when I open Word, Excel, Powerpoint there's a long delay while my iMac says it's verifying the software. This is really annoying and a waste of time, especially if I need to open the program quickly, such as in a meeting or presentation.

iMac MacOS Monterey 12.2.1

MS Word for Mac v. 16.58. Microsoft 365 Subscription.

The OS and Word are up-to-date.

How do I bypass or block this verification process?

Thank you.

iMac 27″, macOS 10.12

If you mean you're seeing these verification notices every time you launch the Office apps (or anything in the Adobe CC suite, Quark XPress and others), then that shouldn't be happening. It should only happen once after initially installing these apps, or after they get an update.

The only known fix for seeing this every single time is to uninstall the offending app and reinstall it from scratch. For Office, just put its apps in the Application folder into the trash and delete them. Your email and other personal data will not be affected. Then reinstall the suite. After that, it will be treated as new and each app will once again cause the OS to verify them, but shouldn't after that until you apply a new update.

It should only occur once after a system update or upgrade. Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files
