HomePod mini stops

I am using Apple Music on my iPhone 12 to play my Apple HomePod mini in the kitchen and my phone is no further than 15 to 20 feet away from the HomePod. A song will play and throughout the song the HomePod will start it’ll stop it’ll start it’ll stop it’ll stay off for 2-3minutes it’ll come back on and then it will turn off again and on and off and on and off. What is going on that the HomePod mini won’t stay connected and keep playing music that constantly is turning off and stopping. The router for Wi-Fi it’s only 10 feet away from the HomePod mini too by the way

any help is appreciated.

It sounds as if you’re playing the Apple Music app on your Phone, and via “Transfer to HomePod”, or manually setting up an AirPlay connection, playing it on the HomePod(s) like any other AirPlay speaker. Doing this should be way more reliable than you describe, so I’m concerned about your WiFi setup, but have you tried setting your iPhone aside and telling the HomePod mini to play your Apple Music selection directly?

IOW, the HomePod is a “smart speaker” that can execute the Apple Music app and play music without any help from your iPhone (although you’ll be able to pause, skip and adjust volume from your iPhone acting as a sort of remote control).

edit: it occurs to me that your iPhone may be stopping the music stream as it goes to lock screen/sleep? Distance shouldn’t matter as long as your iPhone remains on the same WiFi LAN as the HomePod(s).
