iPad requires security code too often

Why does the new iPad Pro with face ID ask for the security code so much more frequently than the older iPad Pro with touch ID? It's really becoming annoying to have to input it sometimes multiple times per day.

L_Bricker,

Thanks for sharing those additional details with us.

The section below from About Face ID advanced technology may help:

"To use Face ID, you must set up a passcode on your device. You must enter your passcode for additional security validation when:

  • The device has just been turned on or restarted.
  • The device hasn’t been unlocked for more than 48 hours.
  • The passcode hasn’t been used to unlock the device in the last six and a half days and Face ID hasn't unlocked the device in the last 4 hours.
  • The device has received a remote lock command.
  • After five unsuccessful attempts to match a face.
  • After initiating power off/Emergency SOS by pressing and holding either volume button and the side button simultaneously for 2 seconds."

If the iPad Pro is being woken unexpectedly by unintended taps to the screen, this may be what's causing it to prompt for the passcode.

Regards.

Thank you for the reply. The Face ID works a lot of the time. The problem is the 10 percent or so of the time it doesn't. My prior iPad Pro with touch ID would ask for my code 2 or maybe 3 times a month at most. This new one asks for the code 4-5 times a week if not more. Combined with the camera location it is a really horrible system. If I could only put the old touch ID into this higher power iPad it would be much better.
