iCloud drive some folders not syncing

Hi,

I use the iCloud drive folder to keep a selection of files (not my whole desktop or documents). I mainly use two MBPs with Monterey and High Sierra. Some of the foldrs have the cloud icon with the down arrow, which supposedly indicates that that they are downloading. However, they don't actually do that until clicked. If I look inside some of the un-synchronized folders it may be only one or two of the files that are not in sync.

My question is why are they not synchronizing automatically and is there some way to force them to stay in sync without manual intervention?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. We know that syncing your Files is important, so we can understand why you’d want a resolution.

First, make sure you have iCloud set up as follows:

“Store your Desktop and Documents folders in iCloud Drive

On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Apple ID , select iCloud in the sidebar, then click Options next to iCloud Drive.
If you don’t see Options next to iCloud Drive, make sure iCloud Drive is turned on.
Select Desktop & Documents Folders.
Click Done.

After you select Desktop & Documents Folders, your Desktop and Documents folders are moved into iCloud Drive. They also appear in the iCloud Drive section of the Finder sidebar.” Use iCloud Drive to store documents on your Mac, iPhone, and iPad

Then, make sure each Mac has a solid Wi-Fi connection. Connect to the internet with your Mac
