how to know if files are save to download to my ipad pro

I sometimes have to download and store files (picture/video/pdf files/ etc. directly oo my iPad Pro (not on iCloud). How do I know if the files are safe and free of virus before downloading? This is the first iPad I own. Appreciate any advice. Thanks!
