i keep getting messages that tell me that i haven't had a backup in 120 days
(a new one is added each day.....tomorrow will be 121)
but when i go to my backup, it tells me that i was back-up at 5:32 on

Do you or did you have more that one drive that was used for Time Machine?
If for example you were using a different external drive that died or was replaced, then perhaps Time Machine is looking for the old missing external drive.
Look in the Time Machine preferences and see if you have two Time Machine drives listed.

OK good info. Click on Add or Remove Backup Disk > select the old Backup Drive and click Remove Disk.
yes, I had a different drive. Switched from a WD to a seagate last August.
