Why am I getting this message (every couple months):
It backs up every hour or so, the backups complete. I even had to replace my hard drive and restored it from the TM backup, and the restore was within a day or two of the replacement. Why does it think it hadn't done a backup?

That message, which in your case appears every couple of months, seems to be spurious and is probably a bug. I've seen it also.
For what it's worth I have not experienced it since upgrading to Mojave.

Did you Inherit the Backups on the new drive?
Seems a disconnection somewhere... cable, drive, enclosure, RAM?
As far as I was able to determine the message had no effect on the ability to restore a backup. I'd be inclined to ignore it.
Yes, everything is the same, including the name of my MPB's hard drive. It's been doing backups since March with no problems, then this popped up today. I get this message every couple months, even before I had to replace the drive.
The Inherit option was never shown, so not part of the issue.
Thanks. Mojave is not an options for me.
