I have a MacBook Air Retina 2019. I need a new external hard drive to back up this computer. Suggestions?

Mostly any external drive will work.

Personally, I would buy an external USB drive enclosure and then select a very high quality drive to put in it. The back up device should be at least as reliable as the device you are backing up or more so.
