Slim Portable DVD Writer with a Mac

my slim portable dvd writer used with my MacBook only spins, never logging in the cd

iMac, OS X 10.11

You do not say what brand it is. You might need to try it with another computer to see if it's working. Or it needs software or drivers to work on your Mac. If it is showing at all you could go to Apple top left-about this Mac-System report and then look for it under what you have ir connected by. Such as USB ect.
