How can I remove the write protection from a CDRW disc in a remote disc drive connected via USB port?
Macbook pro, operating systen Sierra 10.12.6. Remote CD disk drive connected to Mac at USB. Can not edit a Xcel file once save on the disc.

You may be laboring under the misconception that a CD-RW is a block-replaceable device, "just like a regular Disk drive" It most certainly is NOT. There is no expectation that you can edit individual files.
If you think of these discs as ERASE-Able, and re-usable, you will be able to make rapid progress.
What you can do easily is ERASE the disc (in its entirety) and write the same disc with new data.

You may try holding the control key on your keyboard and clicking the disc image on your Desktop or Finder to see what options you're given. However, you might need to take a look at a third-party solution in the App Store to perform the task.
