New Macbook Pro M1 Max Battery Draining

My new machine's battery lasts for only 6-8 hrs though I switch Wireless and Bluetooth off while transferring files between my 2 external hard disks.

BTW I'm using Tuxera to support my NTFS drivers and don't know if that reduces the battery charge or there is something else drains my battery that fast!

Specs:

monterey 12.2.1

32 gb ram

16-inches

m1 max 24-cores gpu

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.2

SOLUTION:

As so often is the case, ADOBE ended up being the culprit.

In particular, the CEPHtmlEngine and the CEPHtmlEngine_Helper were both using 100% of the CPU and approx. 300GB of VRAM each.

I was getting 5-6Hr battery life on my 4 week old 16" 2021 MBP M1PROMAX 64GB 2TB Laptop.

My solution is below : But I contacted ADOBE directly and there were a few more steps which involved verifying permissions to a Photoshop LOG folder in /LIBRARY/LOGS...

And also accessing USER/APPLICATIONS/PHOTOSHOP**version/PHOTOSHOP.APP/CONTENTS/ ( search for CEPHtmlEngine )

and then manually delete all those files.

Seems be working - already hitting 11 Hours of on battery time.

APPLE was sending me to the Genius Bar for this issue - but luckily I think this was a fix.

Cheers!

Good morning all,

After hours of research I've come to this conclusion, we are all hoping the next update will fix the issues that we are having.

On another note, I called Apple support after I reinstalled Monterey 12.2.1, check my drive for errors and did a battery statistic test of my own. The main culprit was no other than..... #1 Bluetooth during daily tasks #2 the screen battery usage played a role as well. The tech scheduled me a Genius Bar appointment for the next day but did I take it "NO" I was still within my extended return period. So yes, I exchanged my 14 inch for the 16 inch with similar specs.

My findings: The 16 inch on the second day after purchase, gave me exactly 8 hrs of battery from 100% to 8%. Granted I did a lot of removing and reinstalling apps due to them not opening properly. Still not quite sure why that happened. My Time machine from my 13 inch M1 to the 14 inch M1 MAX worked fine but anyway. I used DaVinci Resolve, had about 10 tabs open and so light coding. Yesterday without using DaVinci, I was able to get a whopping 18 hrs of battery life out of this 16 inch and I did a 3hr Zoom call. I will add the battery was set to automatic during that time. I'm assuming it took a day of use for the battery to optimize based on my usage. I am quite pleased with the performance so far. On a side note this Mac still gets a little warm during FaceTime calls but not as bad as the 14 inch. I do believe once the update is pushed out it will fix the issue and possibly use the fans to cool more efficiently while on FT.

My New confirmation:

16 inch MacBook Pro

Monterey 12.2.1

64 GB Ram

M1 Max 32 Cores GPU

If you are near the mains leave it plugged in, if you need the portability then run on battery only.

I'm glad you were able to figure out a solution as well. There's a lot of kinks still being worked out within the OS both from Apple and devs but needless to say its still a groundbreaking piece of technology.

I was thinking of getting the 2TB SSD, unfortunately with a two month delivery window, I went with the 1TB and picked mine up the same day. I use a 2TB Samsung SSD with a ROG inclosure and its blazing fast transfer speeds of 1052MB/s. That's amazing compare to many other SSDs.
