Upgrading 2012 MacBook Pro OS

I purchased an mid 2012 MacBook Pro 13 inch. It had El Capitan installed but when they wiped it it reset to Lion.

I am trying to upgrade and both safari and chrome do not work properly with this OS. I have tried to install Sierra, El Capitan and Yosemite. The install says complete, I restart the computer but it is still running Lion.

I have plenty of space as the computer was wiped and has nothing on it right now.

Choose Applications from the Finder's Go menu, run the installer for the version you want, and throw away the others.
