Cancel app subscription before trial is over

I downloaded the New York Times crossword puzzle and have a 7 day free trial. I don’t want the subscription but it auto charges. I can’t seem to cancel my trial. It’s not in Subscriptions under Settings because I haven’t started the official subscription yet. How can I cancel and avoid getting charged?

If you obtained the trial through the App Store, the subscription should be in your Settings even if it is a free trial and you would cancel it the same way as a paid subscription. See: How to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support and if needed see If the subscription that you want to cancel is not listed - Apple Support including:

If you still can't find the subscription and cancel it, contact Apple Support.

If you didn't obtain the free trial through Apple, see: https://help.nytimes.com/hc/en-us/articles/360003499613-Cancel-Your-Subscription
