Mid 2007 mac running el Capitan. Browser window disapears to be replaced by thin gray bar on top of screen. Click on bar and window reappears. Fix?

The keyboard shortcuts and/or screen corner for activation can be modified so you don't accidentally activate it. Clicking inside the slithered window with the left mouse button usually brings it to the foreground.

You probably activated Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Mission Control by mistake.
