ASCII codes for MACs

To make this a question I'll ask "Why must threads be closed--doesn't this cause more pain than joy?". For example, it made me do this in order to do this:


Actually I only wanted to comment, upvote, and thank Tom G for the more direct answer to question 3370194 on how to enter character by code. I had the same question because of a malfunctioning physical key, and needed to keep working pending repair. The unicode hex keyboard works great. For convenience I also checked "Show input menu in menu bar" so I can switch the option key back and forth between its MACish modifier role and hex entry. Finally, if you need hex entry during login as I did, set the login window to allow input selection.  BTW testing with Lock Screen did not expose the problem enough, had to actually log out--but don't do that until you're sure you have a way back in!


Fortunately no hex code of a letter contains that letter. I'd have been in real trouble had the sick key been a digit.
