Connect iMac as monitor

Hello,


I am trying to connect an iMac 27-inch 2009 as a monitor for my MacBook Pro 13-inch 2018. The iMac 2009 is a macOS Sierra and my MacBook Pro is a macOS Monterey.


I have looked for target display mode and this cannot be found, I have also connected both with an apple thunderbolt cable.


I am looking for any assistance with another route to do this or possibly a step that I may have missed.

According to this Apple document, Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support, the MacBook Pro must be running Catalina or earlier. It can't be running Monterey.
