Why Does My Phone Keep Asking "Would you like to stop sharing your location with the participants in this conversation?"

This question was asked back in 2018 and the sole responder didn't really answer it so, I'll ask again. Whenever I delete an iMessage conversation with a family member, I get the question "would you like to stop sharing your location with the participants of this conversation". Why is that question even asked? If I want to stop sharing, I know how to do so and will stop. I don't need to be asked every time I delete a conversation. Is there any way to turn off this annoying question and just keep sharing like I intend to? Thanks in advance.

Hi David,

Thanks for sending these additional details over! From what you're describing, this sounds like expected behavior. The "Share My Location" option in Contacts, allows you to share your location in the Messages app with someone for a certain amount of time, without continuously sharing your location in the Find My app. When a Messages conversation is deleted, it's also alerting you that you're going to stop sharing your location with that contact until you start a new conversation. There's some more information under "Share your location in the Messages app" in Find friends and share your location with Find My

If you'd like to see this option change in the future, it's recommended to submit product feedback so that the correct Apple teams see it.

All the best.

Greetings DavidS.62,

It sounds like you may be part of a Family Sharing group which is sharing the location with each other: Checklist: If you want to stop sharing with someone whom you previously shared with - Apple Support

While there isn't a setting to disable the confirmation you're receiving, you're welcome to leave feedback for Apple services with your thoughts and suggestions at the following link: Product Feedback - Apple

Kind regards.

Thanks for the response Chris_D13. I just checked to confirm and we are not set up for family sharing.

What we do (there are six of us involved) is to turn on "Share My Location" in "Find My" under the Apple ID. Then, in Contacts, we enable "Share My Location" with each other. This allows the 6 of us to share location info with each other. But, it also results in the annoying problem I described in my question above. Every time any one of us wants to delete a conversation that has any of the 6 as a recipient, we get that message.

Thanks again,

David

Thanks Amanda239_91, I may not like your answer but at least I understand the explanation. I will leave some feedback for Apple. I think a better solution would be a flag message that comes up reminding you that you're sharing your location. Then you could simply ignore it if you want to continue sharing or you could intentionally go stop sharing. As it is now, I have more than once when in a hurry, accidentally stopped sharing location with a family member by clicking "yes" to the question thinking it was asking me to confirm I want to delete the conversation.

Thanks again.
