Error code 69716 and the comment 'Failed to verify or restore storage system' when upgrading to OS Monterey

I get the error code 69716 and the comment 'Failed to verify or restore storage system' when upgrading to OS Monterey on my 2019 iMac. Prior question on this same topic suggest running Disk Utility and First Aid. Done that. No problems detected. Still getting the same error.

One thing that confuses me is that there are two "disks" listed, "Macintish HD - Data" and "Update". Both with same information about capacity and available space.

Quite disappointing to have a perfectly functioning, newish, machine get crushed by latest OS upgrade, recommended by Apple.

iMac 27″, OS X 10.11
