FCP Storage Location and Resolution

I will be copying an iMovie project/library to FCP. It is stored on an external drive. I would like to eventually export the project in 1080p and 30fps. The first clip in the iMovie project is 4K / 30fps.


1) What will I need to do after copying the project to FCP? Do I set the resolution to 1080p, or leave it at 4K until I’m ready to export?


2) What do I do with the new FCP library…Copy to library or Leave in Place? I’d like to store the new library on an external drive.


All feedback is greatly appreciated.

For most cases it’s probably best to change the FCP project properties to 1080.


Not quite sure what mean by the second question. The project imported from iMovie creates a library in the same location as the iMovie library. The media is internal to that library. You can copy the new FCP library to an external drive that is formatted for the Mac, APFS or HFS+.
