Ipod nano 5th generation

I know it's old, but hoping to find out why a fully charged battery drains within 5 minutes. Plenty of memory left. Can't see how to update software as it's probably too old. Thoughts on dramatic battery drain? Thanks.

Namely because it is old. Batteries loose capacity with age. Chemical aging can and will happen to batteries, more so with usage, and evermore so if left discharged for extended periods of time. An iPod Nano 5th gen is going on at least 12 years. The battery is sure to be much less capable at this point.

5 minutes is still a bit extreme however. Apple will not replace the battery on such an old model anymore, but 3rd party service providers may still be willing to work on it.

Perhaps buying a slightly newer iPod may be a better choice at this point.
