How can I disable page swiping for Safari specifically, on MacOS

I had a very frustrating experience where I have been working on writing a piece of text (for about an hour!) in a text form on Github and just before I wanted to submit my work, I touched the magic trackpad in a way that was recognised as a page swipe. Because of this accidental gesture I lost all my work!!

I have never liked swiping through the webpage history on Safari and this just adds to the frustration in a big way.

So, how can I disable page swiping for Safari **specifically**, on MacOS? In other places page swiping makes sense (e.g. in a PDF viewer), but not on Safari.

Please stop this madness, it's so frustrating to lose work! 12 years ago I converted to Mac because it was one of my biggest frustrations on Windows. Please Apple, reconsider this feature!

There isn't a Safari-specific setting for this. To disable it in Safari, you will need to disable the swiping gestures system-wide.

Since this is something you feel passionately about, I would recommend submitting your feedback to Apple directly.

In this case, I was able to find back my writings by going to the Session Storage tab of the Developer console in Safari (e.g. Develop > Show Web Inspector > Storage tab > Session Storage). Github.com apparently maintains the contents input fields there.

But this is of course not a solution for any normal user. Page swiping for browsers is just not a good idea. So my initial question remains.
