Logitech circle view and doorbell cameras offline
These are the most promoted and hyped exclusive to HomeKit platform with premium price tags (Not a single dollar discount throughout the holiday seasons despite the fact that they have been out over a year). I purchased one doorbell camera and 4 circle view cameras, 3 of which are outdoor and one is indoor.
I can call myself tech savvy with good experience in IT and gadgets. So believe me when I say it’s not internet, hub or location. I have overkilled with the specs of router, speed and coverage (using extender). 3 hubs (HD TV, 4K TV & a Mini) and all with strong signals. Later I disabled HD TV as hub as that was the oldest chip but no help.
During the period of about over a month, all my cameras have gone offline at least once, but in separate occasions and usually one camera at a time. Over heat is not an issue since it happened during winter, freezing cold. Besides even indoor camera had this issue. If somehow it is still overheating, good luck to me during summer.
All hubs are in 15.3 (latest available), while my iPhone is on 15.3.1 (latest).
I have been fortunate that I don’t have as much issues as others reported. They would go offline ranging from few hours to a day, during that time power cycling is immediate fix (of course it’s not practical every time).
I have a solution that I plan to implement at some point if the issues occur more frequently. Add a smart plug to the camera adapter so, if camera is down, I could turn the camera off and on remotely. That would add unnecessary cost but that’s the best I can think of for glitchy at best techs. At least for the ones that I can’t reach easily.
This is not applicable for doorbell camera with obvious reasons but it doesn’t hurt me as much since I have another camera covering the front area.
Both HomeKit and Logitech cameras have plenty of rooms for improvement. I can only hope future software and firmware updates would fix these issues without having to buy new hardwares. Cause I don’t think I’m getting back for the price already paid for.
With these ongoing glitches, these cameras are overpriced! Oh yeah, reaching customer support for either HomeKit with apple or Logitech would be another waste of time if you have already covered your basic. Cause they can’t pull rabbit out of hat.
