a1243 wrong key layout on m1 macbook air

Hi there,

I got my a1243 Apple keyboard out of my cupboard to use it again. I plugged it into my M1 MacBook Air but it seems that MacOS Monterrey isn't recognising this keyboard as the correct model. The letter keys work well but the number keys do now have function like the f-keys. Backspace is no more backspace it is the function to display all Apps. Really strange behaviour and unusable.

Any hints how to fix this?

Hi xandreasx,

If you haven't done so yet, you may want to try checking System Preferences > Keyboard and see how the Function keys are set up. For example, is "Use F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" enabled? Also, do you see the wired keyboard shown in Input Sources? You might also check the Shortcuts tab and see if Mission Control or Launchpad are assigned to a key combination.

We have a list of the default Mac keyboard shortcuts as well.

All the best.

xandreasx,

Is this issue occurring with the numeric keypad, or the numbers below your Function keys? We ask because the Num Lock key locks the function of the numeric keypad on the keyboard, and disabling it may resolve this.

  • "Press the Num Lock key.

If you have a separate numeric keypad on your keyboard, the Num Lock key is located in the numeric keypad. If your keyboard has a separate keypad but no Num Lock key, try pressing Shift-Delete.

  • If the numeric keypad still doesn’t work as you expect, you may have enabled Mouse Keys, which lets you move the pointer with the keypad.
  • To see the option that turns off Mouse Keys, choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, click Accessibility , click Pointer Control, then click Alternate Control Methods."

These details are located in If a numeric keypad doesn’t work on Mac

There are some additional features that may change or disable the function of certain keys as well. Check out the "If other keys don’t work" section of If your Mac doesn’t respond to key presses for additional steps to complete.

We look forward to hearing the results.

Regards.

Thank you for the answer. Yes, I check the input sources. But it doesn't help. I need a german keyboard and the corresponding layout. This is selected and works as expected. I cannot select an apple keyboard there in order to make sure that the function keys are working properly. My concern is that even backspace is not working as expected. That seems to be strange.
