Often, my Seagate external back up drive "Not ejected properly," even though ....

OFTEN, my Seagate external back up drive (which is connected directly to one of my two USB-C ports) says it was "Not ejected properly," even though I didn't touch it.

The other Mac USB-C port is connected to a hub for power, external monitor and peripherals.

Should a back up drive always be plugged directly to the computer rather than to a hub?

Are those hubs which connect to both ports better / worse / the same as using a hub connected to one USB-C?

Some drives respond badly when your Mac sleeps and drop their Bus power.

If yours is not tolerating this well, you should find a way to provide it with continuous power, or replace it with a drive that tolerates your Mac sleeping.
