Factory Reset

If I factory reset an iphone I'm planning to sell, well that affect the data that I transferred on to the new iphone I just purchased?

It should not have any effect on the new phone

Thank you for your response. When I go to enter my Apple ID at the end of the process I get an error message -

Verification Failed

There was an error connecting to the Apple ID Server

Do you know what might be causing this? I am connected to wi fi.
