Hi there EDuranMac,

Thanks for your post to Apple Support Communities. It is unusual to see the Home app increase by that much storage, especially after an iOS update. There are a few suggestions we have to see what might be going on.

First, we'd recommend restarting your device, then checking storage again. There is a chance the storage amounts need to calibrate after the update.

Next would be syncing your iPhone to a computer with iTunes installed, or a Mac. Then, double-check how the storage is being reported.

Finally, is there a chance you have an app that is unknowingly storing large files (videos) as it relates to the Home app? For example, a home security camera system that is storing video files on your device, instead of in a cloud service?

We look forward to hearing back from you.

All the best.

All right, so here’s my solution. I figured that the main problem came from the Notes app. For some reason the notes app was filling up the entire storage of my phone. I didn’t have that many notes. So I had no idea why it would take up so much space. Anyway, long story short, I figured out where notes are stored on my MacBook and use the grant perspective (a storage inspection tool) to figure out which note attachment is taking up a lot of space. What is still inexplicable to me is that there were entire apps stored as attachments. Like the macOS Monterey installation, which takes up 12 GB of storage. This is really strange, because I don’t have any such attachments. What I did then was to store all my iCloud notes on my Mac, then disable iCloud sync for notes on all my devices, removed and reinstalled notes on my idevices, restarted my Mac, and finally turn sync on again and move my notes back to the iCloud folder. Now storage is under control again.

So, for me it all had to do with Notes. This might me different from everyone else. I informed Apple for what it’s worth. Good luck.

How did you figure out that it was the Notes app clogging up the system data on the iPhone, like you say in the beginning? Would be interesting to know.

I've noticed that sometimes the system data goes down after very long times and without any special frequency. Sometimes after a hard reset or an update but I've never managed to find any repeatability as sometimes it goes down at once but many other times it can take days or nothing happens.
