Can't Create Wi-Fi Hotspot from Macbook M1 when connected to Wi-Fi

hey everyone,

I want to make my mac m1 a wi-fi hotspot but it is not possible if I am connected to any wi-fi.

Apple support has a ticket for it but it states "You can turn your mac into Wi-Fi if you are connected to ETHERNET". => Share the internet connection on Mac with other network users - Apple Support

I am not getting Wi-Fi option when I change "Share your connection from from : Wi-Fi"

When I navigate to my internet sharing I get this , can any one help me out !

Thanks,

newfolder

Sorry but I don't understand your issue. Are you saying you want to connect your computer to the Internet using WiFi then share the connection to other devices through WiFi? That is not possible. You can't have WiFi connected to two networks simultaneously. You can share your Internet connection if you are connected to the Internet using Ethernet. Other devices then connect to your computer using WiFi to share the Ethernet connection to the Internet. It has always worked this way.

Your statement as written is correct. What you are asking to do is not supported and not necessary.

If there is already Wi-Fi in the area that is good enough for your Mac to connect to, it is also good enough for whatever OTHER device you wanted to connect. Connect everything directly to the existing Wi-Fi.

Running the other devices using Wi-Fi through your Mac (as if it were a Router) using Mac Internet Sharing accomplishes NOTHING. If wi-Fi is available, just connect all the devices to the Existing Router. You can already use File Sharing and Screen Sharing through the existing Router to share data.

Well the issue is related to my University, I can only connect one device to my University Wi-Fi, so in that case when I had windows machine I used to connect my windows machine to my university wi-fi then connect other laptop to windows machine.

In Mac, if I am connected to my university's Wi-Fi I cannot create Hotspot and cannot connect other laptops to mac .

Thanks

I've been using Windows PCs for a couple of decades in professional and educational environments and I've never seen the behavior you've described. Neither a Mac nor a PC can connect to more than one WiFi network simultaneously. If you were able to do this, please provide details. You must have been connected to the network via Ethernet then connected multiple computers using WiFi to the device that was sharing the Ethernet connection over WiFi.
