Charging M1 macbook pro with Ipad USB-C charger cable

Hi! My question is in regards to the cable. Is there any trade off or danger in using an Ipad USB-C to USB-C table to charge my macbook M1 Pro? I can see that the cable is a bit thinner than a macbook usb-c cable. So do I only trade in speed, or can there be a danger of the cable heating or similar?

Thanks!

Hello florii

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. The best thing to do is to check if your iPad's USB-C cable is compatible with your MacBook Pro. Use this link to confirm: USB-C Charge Cable (1 m) - Apple

Under "Compatibility", it states the following MacBook Pro M1 models will work with that cable:

MacBook Air (M1, 2020)

MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)

The link we shared also states the following:

Pair the USB-C Charge Cable with a compatible USB-C power adapter to conveniently charge your devices from a wall outlet

If you plan on using that USB-C cable, make sure it's connected to same power adapter that came with your MacBook Pro. We hope this information is helpful.
