My MacBook air is heating up really easily and the fan is turning on when just one application is open, this may be google chrome with just one tab open. Is there anyway this can be fixed?
I'd use Activity Monitor (an Apple App already on your machine), and see what all it tells you about which programs are using your CPU and using energy.

Google is the most likely culprit, because it is constantly at work harvesting and uploading your personal information.
