basic editing iMovie

Ok, brand new to iMovie. I have created a simple video, 45sec long. I'm using an iMac. I have been able to separate the audio and video and have removed the mistake in the audio clip with "r" dragging and "delete" from the pull down menu. Now I have 2 clips, with a void in between. How can I draw the 2 clips together and make it one clip and save it please? Also, if anyone could recommend a quality video on iMovie training without the confusion that would be great.

Thank You Robert

Hi,

There are three ways that you can do this.

  1. You can push the two audio clip segments together in the timeline, and they will play smoothly through.

2,You can select the two audio clip segments and Edit/Copy, and then Edit/Paste them into a newly created project. Then share out the new project as audio only to merge the clips, and import the shared out movie back into your original project.

3.Mute all other audio in your original project and then share out the project as an audio-only file (an option in the Format heading in the share box). That will merge the audio clip segments together. Import the shared out audio-only file back into your original project and delete the two audio segments that you started with. Unmute any other audio.

Put your cursor on the audio clip and, while pressing down, slide it along the timeline or pull it down to a lower audio well. If you pull it far down the little coupling that attaches it to the video clip above it will pull off. That way you can delete the video clip without deleting the audio clip, and you can reposition the video clip on the timeline without carrying the audio clip with it.

Here's a shot of the audio clip segments separated.

And here's a shot of the two audio clip segments after they have been pushed together.

The video timeline will play smoothly through the black space between video clips. The black space will not display during play. No blip will be seen. If you put a black background into the timeline and then put your video clips into the upper timeline above it, you will be able to move your video clips freely along the timeline, and there will be no space between them.

Thank You very much Rich, that did the trick. I must have been doing something wrong. My would have been what you had suggested but for some reason I did it wrong and just needed to hear it from you I guess, lol. While I have your attention, soory, I did try to do the same thing or procedure with the video portion of my little tester but could not get the now, two segment together again. This time though there was a slender black barrier between the two clips preventing me to connect the clips but I am happy to have the audio acting properly now. I have more question but I will make a separate post for those queries. Great Job Rich!!! Thank You so much, Cheers, Robert
