Is there a way to change the 4:3 aspect ratio of airplay mirroring on iPad?

When I mirror my 11” iPad Pro to the 4k Apple TV, the image is limited to a 4:3 aspect ratio with black bars on the left and right.

Yet, the 11” iPad has the same 16:9 aspect ratio as a TV.

This is not really mirroring but rendering the same content on a different display and a lot of precious screen estate is wasted.

Why in 2022 would one still use a 4:3aspect ratio?

How come the ATV does not relay the aspect ratio back to the iPad?

Is this a limitation of Airplay 2?

Please add this to the fix list Apple.

Please measure your iPad again. You’ll see it is closer to 4:3 than to 16:9.

iPad Pro 11" (2018/2020/2021): 2388×1668px (1.43:1)

Use in-app ‘basic’ AirPlay whenever available to send the true media only, rather than actually mirroring the screen. Then 16:9 content gets streamed as 16:9 without additional pillars or letterbox bars.
