In error I removed the Applications folder simply by dragging it out of the Dock. Although the many Applications still remain, I cannot determine how to restore all of them to the original folder within the Dock. Can I restore it via the Time Machine which was backed up last night?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You can drag the Applications folder from the Finder back down to the right side of the Dock—
or
Control click on the Applications folder in the Finder sidebar
