Does Monterey support a large library of audiobooks?

I've been trying to find out if audiobooks are still a problem with Monterey. I know that in Catalina, audiobooks were forced onto the root drive, so if you had a large library they wouldn't all load when the drive ran out of space (I know, right?). There should be an option to point the Books app to an external drive where the audiobooks are located in the same way as is done for music and videos.

Has Apple fixed this blunder?

It's becoming urgent for me because I'm likely to upgrade to an M1 this year but won't if I can't bring along my audiobook library.

Thanks, but I've already seen to links, unfortunately they don't help with my questions.

Let me try to be more clear: When I first import audiobooks into the Books app from an external drive, as far as I know, there's no way to get Books to just link to the drive rather than importing all the audiobooks to the root drive.

I don't see how iCloud could help in this situation, because the links aren't detailed enough.

Looks like I'll have to contact support on this.
