Mouse tracking problem - sluggish erratic issue
Okay, I was about to throw my computer out the window. I couldn't get my mouse to consistently track with the pointer. The mouse would work fine for a while and then the pointer would suddenly start being sluggish and it would be impossible to precisely position the pointer by moving the mouse. This problem was independent of the mouse - I switch between a magic mouse and a Logitec MX Master. However, I could correct the problem by turning the mouse off and then on again. That was a temporary fix and the problem would shortly happen again. I looked up the problem online and followed all of the suggestions to remedy the problem. However, none of those solutions worked (reconnecting the Bluetooth, system resets, reset NVRAM, etc. I even did a complete fresh rebuild of the OS - still no happiness. The problem existed across different accounts on my computer (2019 MacPro - using OS 12.3).
Solution: Here is the solution that worked for me to resolve this. I looked up the problem one last time and one site suggested turning off Handoff from the General Preferences in the control panel. This suggestion worked. I haven't had a problem since.
Go to System Preferences: General: uncheck "Allow Handoff between this Mac and iCloud devices".
I wanted to share this solution because it is such an unlikely solution and it took so long for me to find this solution, I don't want others going through the same frustrations. Clearly a bug in the operating system.
