my Mac would not complete the most recent update. it says there was an error and to quit but the quit button doesn't do anything.

how do I quit a failed update to use my computer? Microsoft 365 may be blocking it

You can always force quit a shutdown by holding the power button/TouchID for ~6-10 sec.

Force Shut down your Mac.


Log out, sleep, wake, restart or shut down your Mac

Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support


Reboot as normal and try again.


If necessary boot to a Safeboot mode and run the update from this environment
