3 finger tap on Data Detectors no longer working

ever since upgrading to Monterey, i cannot get the data detector feature to work via a 3-finger tap in both Mail.app & Messages.app.

i do have System Preferences > Trackpad > Look up & data detectors with three finger tap IS selected.

i did experiment by UNchecking this and using the force-click option, but i personally hate doing it that way. i'm constantly over-clicking everything. so i would prefer to go back to the 3-finger tap if possible.

am i missing something? did Monterey change how this works?

btw: i'm on a new Macbook Pro M1 Max.

thanks.

oh, hi, sorry for the delay, missed the notification.

thanks for your reply but unfortunately, that link does not apply to my situation. i'll try to explain better...

specifically in MAIL and in MESSAGES - data detectors do not work with a 3-finger trackpad tap like they used to in prior OS's.

in MAIL, when hovering over a link, i do get the little arrow icon that appears at the end of the link, & i can click that to open the link in a data detector popup window. but that little icon is very small & i miss click often. would prefer to go back to the 3-finger tap method.

note: the 3-finger tap method DOES still work in SAFARI.

so is there a corrupt preference file or something i can do to get this functionality back?

thanks.
