Monterey 12.3.1 External Monitor/Display Issue - No Longer Outputting Signal

After updating my Mac Mini today to 12.3, my monitor now no longer displays an image via USB-C, just keeps saying on no signal on the monitor.

I have tried HDMI and same issue. The odd occasion it will display a picture but once I shutdown or restart the mac mini it does not display a picture. The mac is booting up. I have had to resort to connecting it to my old TV with HDMI connection.

This is so frustrating

I have tried resetting the SMC which had not appeared to work, also tried downgrading the displayport version from 1.4 to 1.2 (on the odd occasion I did get a picture) but that has not worked either.

Has anyone else having this issue?

The monitor I use is a BenQ SW270C.

This is really doing my head in and was wondering if anyone else has got a fix to this.

So this is related to a previous long-standing bug with DisplayPort, which forced all of us to go into our monitor settings and switch from DP1.4 to DP1.2 so our external monitors would work. Apparently in "fixing" this bug, Apple decided that checking autonegotiation was redundant and the user needs to manually fix things.

The solution is to set your monitor to DP1.4. For a BenQ monitor, that is going to suck, because if you don't have a valid source input, it won't give you the display settings menu. You'll need to hook up a second computer to the monitor without macOS 12.3 so the monitor has a signal, then go into the menus (System -> Advanced -> DisplayPort) and switch back to DP 1.4. Your monitors will work.

I'm so happy to have had to troubleshoot this in the middle of a workday. It was problems like this that caused me to switch from Windows to Mac over twenty years ago.

Ok same issue - really frustrating.

Father's Mac Mini (M1, 2020) Have had two Apple 30" CInema HD Displays (c2005) running quite happily under Big Sur since he purchased it in 2020. Finally got him to move to Monterey and all went fine until the final reboot - both screens remained black. Over and over again, one monitor, different ports, different adapters did not matter - black. Took to nearby authorized mac repair shop, next day they charged us nothing (thank you!!! West Palm Beach MAC!!!), because they said - " Um, it is fine, the upgrade worked perfectly - and we ran it on 3 different monitors all ports no issues." Working for several days now with Apple tech ....no traction - is it the adapters or what? Displays btw are FINE - hooked each up to MacBook Pro - perfect. ????????

For those who sought and contacted Apple directly, they at least have

comfort ~ in knowing someone at corporate did see their comments,

expressions, and logged that report correctly. (Caps? considered rude.)

Monterey 12.3.1 External Monitor/Display … - Apple Community

May 3, 2022 1:30 PM in response to cyeoman06

Hi Apple

I have been using 2 LG UltraFine Monitors connected together at my 2018 MacBook Pro but suddenly 2nd monitor receives no signals although both monitors are working fine when I use just 1 monitor. I strongly believe this is Monterey 12.3.1 issue not any other hardwares. I just went to Apple store at Apple Park but employee over there had no solution. Please help for better work environment.

hi there, just wondering if you had any success? I also have a mac air M1 and am upgraded to monterey 12.3.1

I have a mac CINEMA HD external monitor that it has always connected to. At present in displays the only option when it comes to adding a display is the apple TV devices over wifi. It doesn't recognise anything plugged in and I have added the correct USBc adapter. it doesn't let me try to "detect display " at all.

Also frustrated!!!

Monterey: Same **** problems and start to be a serious problem. It compromise our business. It was perfect with BigSure.

device affected: MacBook Air 2019 + M1 with Dell UltraSharp U2722DE 4 k (Docking station on board)

device affected: MacBook Air with BenQ PD2710-T (Docking station on board)

no problem with the Dell P2722HE (that it's not a 4k) used with the same MacBook Air 2019

Thanks. Yes Purchased the correct USB C male to dvi adapter. Works instantly when plugged in to husbands MacBook Pro also on Monterey 12.3.1 with all identical software but not on Mac Air M1 2020 .

I’m not sure if it’s an accessibility issue? Or if the thunderport (4 not 3 type) is different as it is on the pro as there is a slight difference when we checked via the serial number on the Mac tech specs site

This is the exact same system kernel panic, 1-2 seconds frozen, then pink screen flash, and crash that we had to deal with when the M1Pro and M1Max chipset systems launched. It plagued my 16" MBP multiple times PER DAY.

I upgraded earlier today, and within a few hours; the entire system has kernel panic diseased code that was fixed many releases ago; and somehow its back.

APPLE; I want to downgrade the OS back to the previous release IMMEDIATELY; this is so embarrassing for you. What, like two lines of patch notes for 12.3.1, that just crashes the core processes; you brought back the kernel panic issue; like how does this make it out of QA??
