used hard drive space keeps going up

hi.

this is the first time I've been in a forum hello.

I'm having an issue with the hard drive space as I'm looking at the disk utility the used hard drive space just keeps going up bit by bit. it never stops. at this rate I will have no disk space left.

is there something simple I am missing? is this a known issue?

I am using an iMac 27 inch 2019 with Monterey ver 12.2.1

Macs are never completely idle. If selected, your Mac will update automatically and data will be downloaded. This you can turn off: System Preference > Updates > Advanced.

If you're using iCloud, your Mac is maintaining synchronization with non local devices.

Pretty much everything a Mac does involves data manipulation of some sort or another.
