do not disturb vs new focus settings

I always used to leave my phone on do not disturb so that I would still get incoming notifications that would show up on my lock screen, but they would not wake my phone or make it vibrate (I would have to tap the screen manually to see them).

With the new iOS and the focus features, this is no longer a possibility. I have tried everything I can but there is no way for me to have the same settings as I had before. The only options seem to be that either nothing comes through, or things come through and light up the phone.

It seems Apple has messed with this feature and I do not know if there is any way to get my old settings back, save for a software update which I hope a fix for this will be in.
