Fast forward and rewind not working on CarPlay

I have an iPhone 13 Pro and I regularly use CarPlay on a Chevy Traverse. Somewhere along the way fast forward and reverse stopped working for Music. This has been going on since sometime after iOS 15 was released and has persisted through all updates since. I read that turning lossless audio off could help but it didn’t work. Even stranger is that fast forward and rewind works on my wife’s iPhone 13 Pro in the same vehicle.

Any ideas for a fix?

Hi iPhone_user_101,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you have isolated this to the connection between your iPhone and your car stereo since this doesn't happen when another iPhone is used. In this case, it might be a setting. Try all the steps below

1.Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
•If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
•If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled under Settings > Wi-Fi and Settings > Bluetooth.
2.If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display.
3.Restart your iPhone and your car.
4.Make sure that Siri is on.
5.If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions, tap Allowed Apps and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
6.Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
7.Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.

The above steps can be found in if you need help with CarPlay which can help with most CarPlay connection issues.

Have a great day.

iPhone_user_101,

If it is showing "Not Active" you can try to reestablish the connection.

  1. On the car, forget the iPhone.
  2. On your iPhone, in Settings > Bluetooth, tap the blue "i" and Forget This Device.
  3. If you have multiple connections on your car with the same name, you can change it in Settings > General > About > Name.
  4. Restart your iPhone.
  5. Follow "Set up CarPlay" in Use CarPlay with your iPhone to try again.

Hope this helps.

Have a great week.

Actually I think I’ve isolated the problem. When listening to songs that are Lossless, even those downloaded to my iPhone, fast forwarding and rewinding is not available. If I stream a song from Apple Music that is not stored on my device, and my music data streaming is set to “High Quality” for music, then fast forwarding and rewinding work.
