iMessage doesn't seem to sync

I have a Macbook, Apple watch 6, and iPhone 11. iMessage doesn't seem to sync between the devices. There are 54 unread messages on Macbook, 99+ on watch, and 0 on phone. I have updated and restarted them all. Made sure keychain is on. Made sure background app refresh is on. I have unpaired and repaired my watch which helped it sync with my phone for a short time, but then resorted back to not syncing. However, the Macbook has never synced appropriately. Nothing seems to help. To get rid of them I have to open each message on each device. It's asinine. Can anyone provide in help that might actually work?

Hi yellowchickie,

Do you have Messages in iCloud enabled? You can check on an iOS device by navigating to Go to Settings > Tap [your name] > Tap iCloud and see if the Messages option is on.

To check on your Mac open Messages, choose Messages > Preferences > iMessage and view the selected options.

If needed, the article here also has the steps and a helpful visual to check: Use Messages in iCloud

If you don't use the feature, check your account settings to be sure you're signed into and using the same phone number (if associated) and Apple ID across your devices.

Use Messages on your Mac

Additionally, you can test toggling the badge app alert notification off and back on for your Apple Watch and on your Mac to see if the data clears.

If the issue continues, reach out to Apple Support directly to further assist. You've already completed some excellent steps with ensuring all is up to date and restarting.
