Is the music purchased in iTunes truly ours?

I am thinking in cancel my subscription of Apple Music and iTunes, reason: I have purchased several music albums, I payed for them, but I can’t put my purchased music to my Sony walkman. Is the music bought in iTunes truly mine or not? Then, why I can’t transfer my purchased music to my Hi-Res Player?
