Pages documents in iCloud Drive not showing on iPad

iCloud Drive content is showing up correctly on my MacBook Pro (M1 Pro), iPad mini (A15), and iPhone 13 Pro. On my new iPad Air (M1), most of it is showing up correctly as well.

But not Pages.

I’ve tried toggling Pages off and on in the iPad Air iCloud Drive settings. I’ve tried turning off iCloud Drive on the iPad Air. I’ve tried signing out of iCloud and back in. I’ve even tried removing all iCloud Drive Pages documents (on my MBP) and moving them back in. As a last resort, I even tried to erase my iPad Air and start from scratch. Nothing’s worked. The Pages files show up on the iPhone, the iPad mini, and the MBP, but not the iPad Air.

Numbers? Keynote? All the usual stuff? Like a charm. Not Pages. And I don’t know what else to try.

(What’s that? Update your iPadOS? Way ahead of you there.)

Hi ADC,

Thanks for getting back to us with those additional details. Just to clarify, can you still see the new pages file you created on your iPad on iCloud Drive and all other devices? Does your iPad Air have access to a reliable Wi-Fi network?

As this issue only happens with your iPad Air, let's focus on this device. Which iPadOS is currently installed on your iPad Air? Settings > General > About.

You've mentioned that you erased your iPad. What is the exact steps you've followed to erase your iPad?

Next, let's try to complete all these steps for Pages on the iPad you're having issues with:

1- Close and reopen the app
Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2- Restart your device
Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3- Check for updates
To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4- Delete the app, then redownload it
Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

Hi ADC,

It looks like you have already done some troubleshooting to solve this issue. Even though there is a chance that you've tried these steps already, we would recommend you follow every step and let us know if the issue persists.

If you create a new Pages document on the iPad Air, is it showing up on the other devices?

Are you using the same Apple ID across all of the devices?

Are these documents saved to iCloud using the Files app?

I am using the same Apple ID across all devices, and the docs are saved to iCloud via their respective apps (Pages, Numbers, Keynote). Again, the Numbers spreadsheets and Keynote presentations are visible on the iPad Air, but the Pages documents are not.

Now here's the wild part. I tried your suggestion of making a new Pages doc on the iPad Air, and then I closed it on the iPad Air. Immediately I could see all my Pages documents! And then, as I watched in horror, they all disappeared from within the Pages app! Thankfully, they're all present on iCloud Drive and accessible from other devices, but all of the docs, including the one I just created, just vanished from the iPad Air.

It's like Pages on the iPad Air knows that there is a Pages folder in iCloud Drive, and it can see folders within the Pages folder, but it can't see any of the files, even those created on the iPad Air.

I checked the links you provided, but they did not have any answers, either.

Thank you for the response. Unfortunately, I tried all four of your potential solutions and the situation is unchanged. Closing and reopening, including a swipe to 100 percent close the app, leaves me in the same place. Deleting the app and reinstalling leaves me in the same place. Restarting leaves me in the same place. I even tried deleting the app, then restarting, then reinstalling. Nope.

All my devices are running the latest OS. So … I guess I broke iCloud?
