Connecting Apple TV and Xbox to TV

Hi

I just bought an Apple TV 2nd gen.

My kids have an Xbox One.

I would prefer to use my Apple TV without having to turn on the Xbox as well.

Currently, I have an HDMI from the Apple TV to my TV and all works as expected.

I also have HDMI from the Xbox to my TV.

My question is, how do you access the Xbox from Apple TV?

I don't find any Xbox app or shortcuts.

If I switch back to the TV's original remote, there is an Xbox shortcut on the TV's menu.

I thought it might work if I don't turn on the Apple TV but only turn the Xbox on...but then I only get a black screen and not the Xbox UI.

Any ideas?

if it was me then I would use the tv remote to choose the hdmi port the appletv and or the xbox are connected to as active input source whenever I wanted to use said device.

though appletv2g is pretty limited in functionality these days youtube pulled the plug and am sure other services have too
