Old Samsung ML-1675 printer install for Big Sur and Monterey
FYI: old Samsung ML-1675 printer install for Big Sur and Monterey (Mac mini 2018).
0. As always do a backup, just in case!
1. Connect Samsung ML-1675 printer via USB and turn it ON.
2. Download and install Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 (Driver Version: 1.03.02) from Apple Support:
-> SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg
Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X
That installer works on macOS 10.5-10.14 (although macOS 10.14 does not show the Supply Levels).
But on macOS 11-12 Big Sur - Monterey you must install those drivers via Pacifist 4 (~ $24€) because the old installer does not work on newer macOS.
-> a) Either install everything:
Pacifist > File > Open Package... > [choose SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg] > [select "SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg"] > File > Install Files to Default Locations > [Replace (or Update) all files that already exist]
b) Or install only the absolute minimum that seems to work:
Pacifist > File > Open Package > [choose SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg] > [select "SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg"] > [Command-click to select the following items and verify they are selected]:
"/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Samsung ML-1860 Series.gz"
"/Library/Printers/Samsung/Filters" folder
"/Library/Printers/Samsung/Icons/ML-1860.icns"
"/Library/Printers/Samsung/SCMS/libscmssc.dylib"
"/Library/Printers/Samsung/SCMS/ml-1860sc.cts"
Pacifist > File > Install Files to Default Locations > [Replace (or Update) all files that already exist]
3. System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > [optionally ctrl-click in the left panel "Reset printing system..."] > + > click "Samsung ML-1670 Series" > Use: Choose a driver... Select Software... > select "Samsung ML-1860 Series" > OK > "Add" the printer > OK.
p.s. while testing this on an external test disk, I noticed that /Library/Printers folder could be trashed with no ill effects -- "Reset printing system..." re-creates its default state. But I'd not do that in a work system.
