Built-in camera not working on MacOS Monterey 12.2.1

You are not talking to Apple support, this is a user forum.

Does the camera appear in System Information? Hold down option key and choose System Information from the Apple menu. Click Camera and post a screenshot.

What happens when you try to access the camera in Your Quicktime Player, by doing File->New Movie Recording? If you get some alert or error message please post a screenshot.

Follow the advise from previous posting first then if still an issue >>

1 - Suggest restarting in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

Hardware failure IMHO.

Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Visit a Genius at an Apple Store and have the computer evaluated or repaired.

This is but only the third incident of such an issue I have seen on the Apple Support Community Forums.

Each has occurred on a variety of Apple Computers and setups.

Three incidents does not constitute a trend or even a statistic worth taking special notice of.

Safe mode, downgrading to previous system, and in Windows partition, suddenly camera doesn't work after upgrading to Monterey. Monterey have a firmware update that broke the camera in some (older?) systems, mmm?

Before I downloaded Mac OS Monterey my camera worked perfectly no issues. But I downloaded it a couple of days ago and now I’m having the same issues as the guy above has mentioned. Seems an odd coincidence.

Of course we can't say for sure, but consider this: vexing as the problem is, if it were the case that "Monterey breaks the internal camera" was widespread, what would the outcry have been among users? We frequent this forum every day, and we have not heard many cases like these.

I have a similar issue, just noticed it with recent 12.3 upgrade, and not fixed on 12.3.1.

USB-C to everything adapter to include DisplayPort, which is then cable converted to MDP

Display USB plugged in the hub

Previously EVERYTHING worked. With update, Cinema Display camera is no longer operation.

Pluging the Display USB connector directly into the computer...camera works....plug into hub....camera doesn't work.

There's a workaround, not ideal.

I have exactly the same issue. Camera working properly across variety of apps, then suddenly stopped working after upgrading to macOS Monterey 12.3.1.

I tried all steps I could find online - but nothing really helped so far.

If anyone found the magic trick... please share!

Have you tried plugging the Display USB directly into your MacBook? The crazy thing is that system report recognizes the Cinema Display Camera regardless of whether it is plugged into the USB-C hub or directly into the MacBook, but only works when plugged directly.

Did you get this sorted out? I upgraded this morning to Monterey 12.5 and literally right after the update I had a scheduled zoom meeting and just like that - no camera. I also have the same message as your screenshot. Please tell me you have an answer for me.

I have the same problem now as described above. I upgraded to my MacBook Pro 2016 to Monterey 12.5 and subsequently there is no camera detected in the system report and as a result the camera is no longer detected in apps that would use it.

Please advise. Is this becoming more prevalent as a result of the software update versus a random hardware failure?
