hi,
I have an issue since i restored my iPhone12 mini (with the latest IOS).
each contact I'm adding using my iPhone cannot be deleted using the iPhone, i get a message that says that it is read only and cannot be deleted.
however, I can delete them using the iCloud website
how can I fix that?

Also had this problem when trying to delete a duplicate contact for the same person. I could not delete using icloud because the duplicate did not show in the icloud account but was present on iphone and ipad.
I solved it by renaming the contact after deleting every field. The done option was greyed out until I put in a name, perhaps any field could have been populated, I chose first name with just the letter z. Then I could click done. And when I clicked edit I was able to delete without the message ‘not all contacts were deleted.’

The problem is not iphone settings
the problem is whatsapp chat. Delete the whole chat with the specific person and then delete the contact it will delete the read only contact as well.
The contact was added from WhatsApp. U need to delete the contact from WhatsApp the contact will be removed automatically from your contact list I had the same error but managed to fixed it.

Because this contact u added from WhatsApp so u need to delete this contact from WhatsApp then this contact will be automatically removed from your main contact list
I followed your method n still unable to delete . Still showing read only
I’ve tried to procedure of going to settings>screen time etc but i CAN’T still delete the contact…. Why is that?
