Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
The ‘event reminder’ setting is missing from Calendar settings. All event reminders do not fire, there is a strike-through line in each one.
How can I get event reminders to work? Without them, the Calendar value is greatly diminished.

Yes it still didn’t work. However, I found the solution by clicking on the info button next to the email calendar and was able to enable the reminders. Had to dig deeply, but finally found the magic bullet.

Does this happen if you create a new calendar event?
Create and edit events in Calendar on iPhone - Apple Support
Do you sync your calendar events with iCloud or a different email provider?
Which iOS version do you have installed? Check by tapping Settings > General > About.
